i am

ten'o'six
pictures of me
aged
i am the vulnerable child who pleads,
i am a supplicant on bruised knees.
tell me, where did you hide the seeds
of those coloured plastic bag trees?

i am wide-eyed wonder,
you were meant to be my shelter.
mine is the mind you sought to plunder
when you allowed all your furies to swelter.

you will not speak of my sadness
though it's there for all to see,
and well, my part-time madness
is just what makes me Me.

i refuse to share your cynicism,
i know you could have broken me,
you see, trusting in my stoicism
has finally awoken me.
