Hawaii 2004 On my way from Sydney to Vancouver in May 04, I decided to break the trip up a little by taking a few days in Oahu. I thought I would hate Waikiki for being too commercial, but was surprised to find that I enjoyed it and appreciated just the way it was. I would gladly go back to Hawaii, especially to see the other islands.

Boston 2005
Making our way from Montreal to Arizona, we stopped by Boston to check out the city and catch up with some friends. Loved it.

Boston 2005 Day 2.

Prescott to Sedona 2005 We discovered some totally unexpected magic spots between Phoenix and Flagstaff, taking the road through Jerome. For more details, see the blog for August 2005 period.

Sunset Crater, Wupatki, and the Grand Canyon 2005 Standing 1000 ft high, Sunset Crater is the youngest volcano on the Colorado Plateau. Apart from being a difficult name to remember how to spell (I believe I made a mistake in the actual album name), Wupatki is a pueblo that housed Sinagua and Anasazi people back in the 12th and 13th century. The Grand Canyon is one of the seven wonders of the natural world, nuff said.

Meteor Crater and Walnut Canyon 2005 The first proven and best preserved meteor crater on Earth is the tagline, well it's definitely impressive. Walnut Canyon is located near Flagstaff and is home to more cliff-dwelling ruins.

Montezuma's Castle and Montezuma's Well 2005 Montezuma's Castle was so named because it was once believed to have been exactly that. It has since been confirmed that this 5-storey, 20-room cliff-dwelling housed Sinagua Indians some 600 years ago. The well is a "sinkhole, a collapsed underground limestone cavern filled with water". Researchers are apparently still baffled as to the source of the water that runs through there.

Petrified Forest and Painted Desert 2005 Petrified redwood giants, petroglyphs, crystals, and a painted desert to top it all off.

Grand Canyon 2005 We went back for a full day at the Grand Canyon.

Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley 2005 Canyon de Chelly was probably our favourite stop on the trip, simply because of the feeling we got there. Monument Valley was unfortunately washed out and so admired from above.

Antelope Canyon 2005
On Navajo territory near Page, this slot canyon can only be visited in the company of a licensed guide only and if you're into photography, it's well worth paying for the longer photographer's tour. You will see amazing light plays over the sandstone walls.

Lake Powell 2005 The second largest reservoir in the US and from there you can explore Lower Antelope Canyon which is pretty spectacular.

Bryce Canyon 2005 Amazing. The rock formations are like a sea of gothic cathedral spires. This national park is located in southwestern Utah and was one of the first mormon settlements in the area.

Zion National Park to Las Vegas 2005 We only got to spend a couple of hours in Zion before heading on down to Nevada for a quick Las Vegas visit.

Las Vegas 2005 Crazy, crazy town.

Saguaro National Park and Sonora Desert Museum 2005
Most of the Saguaro park was closed off due to heavy monsoonal rainfalls. In a way it was lucky because we got to see a lot of saguaros and still had enough time to spend a few blissful hours in the Sonora Desert Museum, which is definitely not to be missed if you find yourself near Tucson, Arizona.

Sedona 2005
The red rocks of Sedona had so impressed us on our way to Flagstaff a couple of weeks earlier, that we had to go back and spend a little more time there.
